Do you love Reformer Pilates so much that you dream of making it your profession? You’re not alone. The demand for qualified instructors is growing with the Reformer’s popularity, in Laval as everywhere in Quebec. Here’s everything you need to know to become a Reformer Pilates instructor.

The role of a Reformer Pilates instructor

An instructor doesn’t just demonstrate exercises. She observes every body, spots compensations, corrects alignment, adapts movements to each person’s needs and limits, and creates an atmosphere that is both motivating and reassuring. She must understand anatomy, master Reformer technique and communicate clearly. It’s a fascinating, human and rewarding profession.

Do you need to be an expert to start training?

Not necessarily. Good personal experience with Pilates is an asset, as it helps you understand the sensations and vocabulary. But the training is there precisely to give you the technical and teaching knowledge. What matters most is a passion for movement and the desire to support others.

What complete training should cover

  • Anatomy and biomechanics: understanding how the body moves and why each exercise works.
  • The Reformer repertoire: from basic exercises to advanced movements, with their variations.
  • The principles of Pilates: concentration, control, centering, precision, breath and flow.
  • The art of teaching: giving clear cues, observing, correcting and building a coherent class.
  • Adaptation: adjusting exercises for beginners, common injuries or specific needs.
  • Supervised practice: actually teaching, with feedback to improve.

The 200-hour training at BLVD Pilates

At BLVD Pilates, we offer a 200-hour Reformer Pilates certification, taught in the studio, in Laval. It combines theory, practice and supervised teaching to prepare you to teach with confidence. Classes take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, to fit into a busy schedule. The full program, dates, payment options and registration form are on the Training page.

The qualities of an excellent instructor

  • Patience and kindness.
  • An eye for detail.
  • Clear, encouraging communication.
  • Curiosity and a desire to keep learning.
  • A love of building connections with clients.

Career paths after the training

Once certified, several paths open up: teaching in a studio, giving private classes, working alongside another health or movement-related profession, or even developing your own project. Many instructors start part-time, alongside their job, before making Pilates their main activity.

Joining the BLVD team

We are always looking for passionate instructors who share our vision of high-end, precise and caring Reformer Pilates. Check our job openings and apply directly on the Careers page.

Investing in your training

Complete Reformer Pilates training is an investment of time and money. It’s therefore important to choose it carefully: check the number of hours, the content, the share of supervised practice and the support offered after the training. Good training gives you not only a certification, but above all the confidence to teach from your very first classes.

How do you know if it’s for you?

Ask yourself: do you enjoy explaining and supporting others? Are you curious about how the body works? Do you feel joy seeing others progress? If the answer is yes, teaching Pilates may well be your path.

A passion that becomes a profession
